“Eastern Green” by Twin Sister // In Heaven (2011)
I’ve been vibing the hell out of this album all afternoon, but this song in particular just latched onto my brain and won’t let up. Especially at around the 1:05 mark when it shifts from a sweet, effervescent indie pop jam into a shimmering, ethereal, blast of synths and keys and then just as quickly shifts back again. So damn good. I love it when an album destroys your expectations.

“Don’t Fear the Reaper” by Sea of Bees // Gnomes (2011) // Originally by Blue Oyster Cult
There are dozens of covers of this song floating around out there, but where as those versions tend to lean toward the darker side of things (slowed way down, gothed up), this one keeps the proceedings generally more folksy, but still haunting. It’s mostly thanks to the great vocal harmonies used within the band. It’s a solid cover and does it’s job of helping my brain look onward to the coming Halloween season where I’ll be digging out various other versions for mixtapes and whatnot. At any rate, give it a listen and if you like what you hear, you can stream the entire Gnomes EP at Soundcloud.
